If you could do anything with your life, and couldn't fail, what would you do?

I'm going to revolutionize our generation!! And you can't stop me. :]
Posted by: Loki on April 14, 2007 at 9:15AM EST

It seems that because I'm young, I can't "do anything revolutionary" or "change the world" because I'm just a lowly high school student.

I can't do it because teens are "so insecure" about themselves or maybe "they do things on impulse" and even "they let their emotions rule over their heads."

Baloney.

Sure, it may be true that some teens do this. But that's stereotypical and "average" thinking on that level.

Do you just want to be mediocre? I wouldn't think that'd turn any heads. Why be boring or average when everything is so boring or average as it is?

Don't you think inventors like Thomas Edison and Albert Einstein were young when they wanted to change the world? Maybe all the adults looked down on them in that superior way that adults sometimes do to kids and said,

"Stop wasting your time." "You should pay more attention in school." "If you want to amount to anything you'd better stop your daydreaming."

If you were reading a biography in which people were saying that to the person being written about, what would be your opinion of those people? Who was the ignorant one in that situation?

I'm not only talking about adults here, either, I'll have you know. Teens and their peers are main suspects and culprits as well. It may be just a small word or phrase like "That's a dumb idea" or "That'll never work."

If you were a good friend, wouldn't you want to encourage and support the person's effort all you could? Even if it was/is a bit unthinkable, wouldn't you at least stand by them and urge them on?

And certainly, when the going gets tough, are you the one to first say "I told you it wouldn't work," shake your head, and them tell them that that's life?

I certainly hope not. If the whole world says that they're stupid for doing what they're doing, and then you go along with it, remember this; while that whole world was screaming at him to give up, do you think that he would consider the world his friend?

And if you started telling him that he should give up, wouldn't that put you on the same level as the rest of the world? Now tell me, would that make you his friend...? Or an opposing side. Maybe he would even consider you... his enemy.

Think.

When someone asks "why?" you should always ask "why not?"

That's the first step for changing the world.

As a father of 4 sons, I firmly believe that you should allow your children to have dreams and aspirations. But I have to caution you not cut out the things that will support you in getting there, like a good education. My oldest son had the opportunity to play drums with a new singer songwriter. Sounded like a good deal so he stopped going to college to play music. I supported him, I even joined to band myself. Long story short, the band fizzled, and he hasn't finished his college education yet. Harness your emotions to get you where you want to be, don't let them control you. I like your energy and passion, don't give it up. One person has and can make a difference. You will find that when you step up, that makes those that don't step up uncomfortable, and they want you back down where they are at. Drive on, eagles don't fly with turkeys, they find other eagles.

I understand that a firm alternative should be there beside your revolutionary idea.
Thank you.

I agree with Mr.Bob and some other things I am sure he meant to say. I agree with you we as teens do need to step up and make a differance the time is and it is now! If you look in the ask aloud I wrote an paper called a dying nation describing the path america has taken.

As I was saying you are right and we do need to make a differance. But cuation cuation! Read proverbs. Time and time again the writer warns against foolish and impulse and immediate desires. Now I agree with you people do sterotype us teens as being emotional and impulsive. But honestly aren’t we? I mean honestly when we first start out as young men and women without experience or knowledge we think we can do anything and will say we are going to do it.

But then we look at the task before us that we have proclaimed we will do and we become overwhelmed and frightened wondering how in the world we could possibly do this? But take heart for God says that “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” Philippians 4:13.

I am in no way trying to discourage you. I am glad and filled with excitement that I am not the only teen out there who wants to bring others to Christ and be used by Him to change the world.

But I have learned something that our generation is short of or in no supply of…patience! I know I know we want to rush in there into the world and shine Christ light to the darkness. I have learned in the last 2 years and in the last 2 months that before I can make change. Before I can tell someone else to change. Before I can be an example I must become Christ like. I have to change first! I am not talking about the descion to change like the commitment you make at camps or raleys.

Though don’t get me wrong those are very very important steps. In fact they are the first step with out a decision to change you wont even attempt to change. What I am saying is we so often as teens or all Christians for that matter make a decision for God and ask Him to change us.

Good! Congratulations! But do you relize what you have just asked God to do? You have just asked Him to CHANGE YOU! Think about that. God the creator holiest most wonderful and pure being ever to make you what He wants you to be. Wow! I mean that is awesome! We should and need to be what God wants us to be!

But this is so so so much more then just asking God and letting Him make the change and we not do anything about it and just go on living our lives saying I am gonna change things! Change does not and I stress does not come by the wave of a magic wand. It comes by work, hard hard work! Commitment, sacrifice, and love for God!

Before we can change things we have to change! It would take to long to explain the process. Find a book called Changed Into His Image. Read it. It shows Gods plan for transforming your life. It isn’t some author giving advice. It points you to scripture and shows you what God has to say about this! In order to change we must Choose to listen to God, Choose to think like God, Choose to obey God, and Choose to continue and obey God no matter what happens around us! Listening, Meditating, Obedience, and Endurance. Any way now that you got me going on this lol. It has taken me two years to learn that and I have a feeling I am still just getting started.

Biblical Change does not come easily. It is hard, hard, hard work. But it is so well worth it! When we are changed we can help and show others how to change! You see you are talking about becoming an example a leader! Noble and much needed aspirations. But are you ready for the responsibility?

Please I am not trying to discourage you. But I have made this mistake of jumping into things to fast too many times. I am a teen like you. And it is our generation that must and I believe will bring revival. But an avalanche doesn’t start with massive amounts of snow falling. It begins with small stones falling. The same is true in our lives! Before we can be used to bring revival we must be revived to God ourselves. I hope this has helped and been an encouragement.
