I love to listen and support local bands. Many times I'll find a band
that may never reach the pinnacle of the music business but they write
a song that is just brilliant. One of those bands is one from
Springfield, Missouri named One Star Story. They're a pop-rock outfit
with a killer drummer, solid guitarists and a vivacious lead singer.
They just landed a record deal and have the goods to make it. I hope
they do.
They're
not an overly Christian band but rather a band made up of Christians.
(I personally am not a fan of the "Christian band" label because if
we're living our faith we don't need labels, but I digress...) They
look at life from a Christian perspective and write songs that reach
people where they are in their lives. Even if someone doesn't know the
Scriptures they can relate to the messages in the songs and when they
get to know the band better they can see the One from whom they are
inspired to write and sing.
One of those songs is their biggest
hit to date, "Near To Far." I'm sure that different people hear
different things in the song but when I hear the chorus I always think
of Jesus standing there waiting for us to turn to Him at any time in
our lives like a friend that's been waiting for us to call. Check out
the lyrics:
"Here we are, I'm oh so close,
Can't you see you're not too far away?
Just a little bit closer, a little bit closer,
There's so much to say."
Can
you picture it? Think of a time that you faced a struggle in your life
or a trying circumstance where you felt like Jesus was a million miles
away. Yet in reality He is there just like in this song...so close to
you and just wanting for you move closer and closer to Him. He has so
much to tell you in how to live your life to the fullest and be a
blessing to Him, to yourself, to your friends and to the world.
Yet
you have to turn to Him and move closer to Him. Like Vanessa sings so
well on this song you're not too far away no matter what you're doing
in life. It doesn't matter if you're doing drugs or drinking too much
or sleeping around or cheating or lying or stealing or anything! He's
SO close!
"for He has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake
you.”" - Hebrews 13:5 (ESV)
Stop running and turning away. Jesus has a lot to tell you if you just move a little bit closer.
