christians and war
Asked by: steven mills on April 22, 2008 at 3:21PM EST

Hello. I am 15 and have been raised to be a southern baptist. for a while now I have really wanted to try and become an Army ranger. God has given me a love of warfare. However, none of my christian friends seem to think that it is right for a christian to fight in wars. What do you think?

Scincerely,

Warhistorian

Young man, I commend you for your yearning to serve your country. I served in the United States Marine Corps for 5 years and I feel it really helped me to become the man I am today. All of this aside, you need to follow your heart in this matter, not what your friends say or feel. There are many references in the Bible to war and battles and many of the main characters in these battles were favored by God. One such character was David. He was one of the most successful and highly favored men in the Bible because he was obedient to God and served the Lord faithfully. Read 1st and 2nd Samuel in the Bible and you will see what I am talking about. I also encourage you to Pray about this and ask God for clarity on this subject. The main thing is to always be obedient to God and serve Him as He leads you. He has already created the path you must follow. Your job now is to seek His guidance and put your trust and faith in Him. The Lord will keep you and never let you go astray. I will keep you in my prayers and I hope this helps you with your question. Add me as a friend if you would like to talk more on the subject. P.S. My son just graduated from boot camp and AIT and is now an MP in the ARMY!
