Back to the music scene
Asked by: Chandler on October 29, 2007 at 2:46PM EST

I quit listening to Christian music for a long time because of a lapse in my faith.  I am back in my walk now, and would really like to get back into Christian music.  When I was listening to it, I was a huge fan of dcTalk's "Jesus Freak" album, as well as the first Jars of Clay album.  Can anyone point out some similiar bandsor artists that are good now in the Christian scene?

Thanks much.

I'm not sure if they can be counted as "similar" to DC Talk, but Casting Crowns is a great group. To start out with, I would buy their self-titled album. Great, great music. It was my first Christian album.

Go to http://www.last.fm then search for Jars Of Clay and dc Talk there you will see similar artists to both of those artists then you can start listening to those Christian artists. I hope that helped.

There are too many to list! I don't know what type of music you listen to (Rock, rap, contemporary etc..), For contemporary/rock, there is Casting Crowns, Third Day, Rush of Fools, Krystal Meyers, Newsboys, Aaron Shust (I don't think I spelled that right), Matthew West, Jeremy Camp, Natalie Grant, Big Daddy Weave, Todd Agnew, MercyMe, BarlowGirl, Chris Tomlin, Brian Littrell, and many others I can't think of right now. For Hard rock/heavy metal/alternative there is Disciple, Demon Hunter, Flyleaf, Fireflight, Underoath, Seventh Day Slumber, Skillet, Thousand Foot Krutch, Hawk Nelson, Kutless, and for Praise and Worship there is Hillsong United. I can't think of any one else at the moment, but I got my start into Christian music with the WOW albums and Christian X. WOW is pretty much all the hits, kinda of like 'NOW' and Christian X is Christian Rock hits. I would start out with Casting Crowns. They are awesome! Hoped that helped. God Bless!

If you liked DC Talk then run to the store and get Toby Mac Portable Sounds! :) I just saw Toby Mac & Diverse City for the 2nd time live and it was incredible. He puts on a tremendous show, and he did Jesus Freak both times. I would highly recommend that album.

Stephen really covered it well in the post above. If you tend more to hard rock I really like Skillet, and I'd also put in plug for Relient K as another of my favorites, either of their last 2 albums are extremely good top to bottom.
