An update on the previously mentioned graphic novel adaptations of Ted Dekker's Circle Trilogy:

CIRCLE MEDIA, LLC TO RELEASE 3 TED DEKKER GRAPHIC NOVELS
November Release Will Be First of Its Kind in CBA & ABA Markets

Circle Media, LLC announced the upcoming release of three full-length graphic novels, based on the Circle Trilogy by New York Times best-selling author Ted Dekker. Black, Red and White will be published simultaneously by Circle Media, LLC and distributed nationwide in early November by Thomas Nelson. Each book will contain 136-pages of original art, and will carry a suggested retail price of $14.99.

A Story Like No Other
The Circle Trilogy tells the epic story of Thomas Hunter, a man that stands between the annihilation of two worlds separated only by his dreams. By day’s end, three million people will be carriers of the deadliest virus in history.  There is no vaccine. There is no anti-virus. Thomas is the world’s only hope, and he’s already been killed today.  Twice.

“From page one, the Trilogy is a wild ride,” said author Ted Dekker. “I’m very pleased with how the graphic novels breathe life into the story in a new way.  Fans of the original books will not be disappointed, and those who are seeing the story for the first time will become fans.”

The First of Its Kind
Adding to the anticipation is the fact that the Circle Trilogy graphic novels will break new ground in both the CBA and ABA markets. “Never before has a story of this scope been released like this.  Three full length graphic novels that tell one story, released at the same time,” adds Kevin Kaiser, Circle Media’s Editor in Chief.  “It’s a one of a kind event.”

Koch Records artist The Myriad has made the top 12 for MTV2’s “Dew Circuit Breakout ‘07.” At the beginning of the competition in September, thousands of artists and bands sent in their submissions, and an expert panel whittled the list down to the 12 semi-finalists. Now, online fan voting will determine the top finalists. In December, the top three bands will be flown to New York City for the live Dew Circuit Breakout Finale in Times Square. Following up our earlier report ("Krystal Meyers, Manic Drive, more place songs on network TV"), two more CCM favorites have turned up on TV this week:

1) A brand-new track from Fireflight's upcoming album debuted Wednesday promoting NBC's new hit show "Bionic Woman." The promotional spots will run throughout the week. The heretofore-unreleased “Unbreakable” is from Fireflight’s forthcoming sophomore album releasing spring 2008.

Although the album is months from release at retail, the title track was an instant hit with NBC executives: Janine Kerr, NBC/Universal Director of Promo Services, says, “Once I heard ‘Unbreakable’ by Fireflight, it just made sense that NBC should use this song in ‘Bionic Woman’ promos. In fact, the whole CD is great. Buy it!”

The single is scheduled for digital download at iTunes and other select digital channels in November.

2) And another one at ABC hit "Grey's Anatomy" --  in addition to the previously announced track from Kendall Payne, last night's episode also included tuneage from Katie Herzig. Her "Fools Gold" played as Norman tells Alex he isn't feeling well. Alex finds an unexpected visitor behind the curtain.

Four recent bits of news regarding CCM magazine artists finding their songs on network TV:

1) Starting tonight, fans of Krystal Meyers will get to sample the brand-new track “Make Some Noise” -- from her forthcoming album -- when ABC begins airing promotional spots for its Sunday night lineup, which includes hit shows “Desperate Housewives,” “Brothers and Sisters” and “Extreme Home Makeover.”

Since the release of her self-titled debut on Essential Records (2005), 19-year-old Meyers has garnered three Dove Award nominations, landed the No. 1 spot on general market radio in Japan, and performed before more than 400,000 people. Dying For A Heart, her second record, hit stores September 2006.

2) Kendall Payne's single "I Will Show You Love" will get some play during the Oct. 25 episode of Grey's Anatomy. The track comes from Payne's new album, Paper Skin. (Review here at CMCentral)

3) Atlantic recording artists NEEDTOBREATHE will find their music gracing MTV shows The Hills and Newport Harbor. Meanwhile, Fox is using “Nothing Left to Lose” for their Monday night promos for shows Prison Break and K-ville.

4) Manic Drive's sophomore project RESET & REWIND (Whiplash) hits stores nationwide next week, but has already garnered the attention of various television networks and shows. Alliance Atlantis, an entertainment company that co-produces and distributes the CSI franchise, will use songs from RESET & REWIND for a number of TV shows seen on Slice (Canada), BBC (Canada), Showcase, and many other networks. Additionally, Spike TV will use tunes such as "NYC Gangsters" and "Obvious" from the new CD as themes for their upcoming shows.

Additional promotional efforts for RESET & REWIND involve Godin Guitars and several video shows and TV networks, including Gospel Music Channel, JCTV, One Cubed, Steel Roots, TVU, and others. Entries are being gathered on the various shows that are currently playing Manic Drive's music video "Eleven Regrets." As winners are announced, Godin Guitars will give away 8-10 guitars between now and the end of the year.

With Knowledge of the “Top Ten” at an All-time Low, The Ten Commandments Film Producers Take Action

The Ten Commandments, starring the talents of Ben Kingsley, Elliott Gould and Christian Slater to release in theaters nationwide October 19, 2007

HOLLYWOOD – While a recent survey conducted by Kelton Research showed respondents know more Big Mac ingredients than the Ten Commandments, taken on the whole the statistics are even more revealing: out of the 1,000 respondents, almost two in five (35%) can recall all six Brady kids, a quarter (25%) could name all seven ingredients of the Big Mac, but only just over one in ten (14%) can accurately list all Ten Commandments.

With public knowledge of the Ten Commandments at an all-time low, Academy Award-nominated actor Elliott Gould, the voice of God in the upcoming animated film, The Ten Commandments, agrees with producers of the film that something needs to be done. The film’s opening ties into a recent statistical survey commissioned by The Ten Commandment Commission. Produced and distributed by Promenade Pictures, the movie opens in theaters nationwide Oct. 19 and in conjunction with an online campaign to heighten awareness of these foundational societal principles.

A telephone press conference call last week featured Gould, along with film’s producer Cindy Bond, writer Ed Naha, Christian artist and songwriter Jeremy Camp and was moderated by The Ten Commandments Commission president, Dr. Ronald Wexler. Featuring media questions, the call gave participants an opportunity to discuss their reasons for being part of the making of “The Ten Commandments” film and its relevance today.

Re-presenting a classic blog entry from 2005:

* * *

"I want to rock the world / I'm keepin' it real/ Keepin' it simple-simple-yeah." -- "Rock the World," Dum Dog Run

-

As CCM Magazine readers know, I write a monthly column, "Chris Well's [INSERT ADJECTIVE HERE] CCM List-O-Rama." (Yes, the adjective changes every issue.) Anyway, for January, we featured a list of five novelists who had some sort of Christian music connection. Well, given the space available to us here on the Web, here is a special extra-length version of that column ...

Chris Well's CCM List-O-Rama: ELEVEN-Sized Online Edition: LOOK AT ME! BUY MY BOOK! 11 Proofs of the Secret Connection Between Christian Music and Novelists

1/ Chris Well -- I write this column. I wrote a book. You do the math. Forgiving Solomon Long (Harvest House Publishers), which hit shelves this month, is a crime thriller populated with thugs who argue about Broadway musicals and '70s sitcoms, a mob boss who pulls a King Lear, a germophobic hit man and a detective more worried about getting the bad guys than in saving his own marriage. Oh, and one of the characters listens to the band P.O.D.

2/ Stephen Lawhead -- Fans of big, thougthful, heroic, Celtic, historical and fantastical literature know this man well. Although his early fantasy and SF novels were on smaller Christian imprints, his Pendragon books and Song of Albion trilogy made such an impression on readers that a big secular publisher snapped his contract up and had his books shelved where they belonged, in general market stores, between the likes of Robert Jordan and Michael Moorcock.

His presence on this list is for three reasons: a) Back in the old days, for a time he was manager of pioneering Christian rock band DeGarmo & Key; b) his Song of Albion trilogy was soundtracked by the brilliant musical team of Jeff Johnson and Brian Dunning; c) and Mr. Lawhead and his son, Ross, participated in the recent musical/multi-media extravaganza !Hero. The Lawheads adapted the original story for the comic book series, and also wrote a couple of original !Hero novels set in that universe.

3/ Sigmund Brouwer -- Husband of artist/songwriter Cindy Morgan, Sigmund Brouwer is one of the real workhorses in Christian publishing, with science fiction, thrillers, mysteries, westerns, historical fiction, sports adventures, supernatural adventures and children's books to his credit. His latest smash success, The Last Disciple (Tyndale House), a collaboration with famed "Bible Answer Man" Hank Haneegraff, is a thriller set during the first-century Church. Find out more about the novel at Decipher the Code.

4/ Tim McGraw and Michael Morris -- This team-up of a country superstar and novelist resulted in the novella, Live Like You Were Dying, (WestBow Press), based on the CMA Song of the Year. Following the lyrics of the song, lead character Nathan Bishop's outlook on life drastically changes when a suspicious spot is discovered on his lungs.

5/Denise Hildreth -- Wife of recording artist Jonathan Pierce, Denise Hildreth was a successful songwriter before she wrote her first novel, Savannah from Savanna (Westbow Press), the story of one woman's attempts to make a place for herself in the charming town of Savannah, Georgia. The next book in the series will be released in 2005.

Artist LEE WEEKS (Spider-Man, Hulk) talks to Newsarama about his work on Marvel Comics' upcoming Captain Marvel mini-series:

"For Captain Marvel, in particular, there is a Messiah-like quality to him—especially in this particular tale. As a follower of Jesus Christ, there were a number of conflicting feelings within me initially. I certainly didn’t want to do anything that would bring reproach to Jesus. After talking with Brian [Reed], I was not only comfortable with going forward, but enthusiastic to explore some of the metaphor in the story and character. It’s affected how I’ve visually represented Mar-Vell. No, I’m not drawing Jesus—but there are some characteristics of my Lord that I find in Captain Marvel’s character—characteristics that I think are worth portraying."

Whole interview here.

Meanwhile, over at DC Comics and that other Captain Marvel, Mike Kunkel is creating a new kids comic called Billy Batson and the Magic of Shazam. Kunkel is the award-winning creator of Herobear & The Kid.

Newarama interviews Kunkel here.
