"
What is life if not to lead me deeper into You?
"
OK, so I don’t have a big dramatic testimony. I’ve been a Christian since I was 8 years old, when my mom took my older sister and me to a Billy Graham movie. We both went up for the altar call and, even at that young age, I understood what I was doing. A few weeks later I got baptized in the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues. So I have been a friend of God for all of these years and thankfully, He has spared me from going through a lot of "stuff."
No, I don’t have the perfect life. The biggest thing that’s missing for me is having a godly husband to walk beside me in this journey. I’ve been waiting for a long time and saving myself for him and no, I’m not ashamed to admit that! I’m not unrealistic and I’m not expecting, at this point, to find a man who has saved himself for me. What I do expect is a true godly man who, regardless of what happened in his past, understands now that sex is something that God created to be experienced and enjoyed within the bounds of a healthy marriage relationship. I don’t understand men who profess to be committed Christians but can’t seem to grasp this biblical concept.
I went to photography school right after high school and, for a long time, thought I wanted to move to Nashville and photograph Christian recording artists for album covers. I love Nashville! I went there a few times several years ago to survey the photographic landscape. I had planned to just pick up and move and hopefully work for a photographer there to learn the business. What I found out, in doing all of my research, is that there was nothing available except freelance photographic assisting. I’m not the starving artist type and I didn’t have any peace about moving at the time. It only took my pastor to confirm what I already knew–“If you don’t have peace, it’s not of God.” So I put my Nashville dream on the shelf and I concentrated on working customer service and retail sales jobs, while pursuing photography work on the side.
In 2002, I lost my ticket counter job at US Airways–was laid off with so many others–and it turned out to be the best thing that ever happened to me. I finally got off my butt, went back to school, and got my B.S. in Corporate Communications (public relations, advertising and marketing). Interestingly, and though I wasn’t aware, God had placed in me a talent for writing. In school, I was forced to develop that talent and even had a few professors tell me that I should think about pursuing it professionally. This was one of the many times that it became clear to me how infinitely cool God is because I had picked this communications major on a fluke, or so I thought. But God put me in this major because He knew. I had registered for college fairly quickly after losing my job and I didn’t realize that, by picking communications, I had landed myself squarely in the middle of the journalism and mass communications department. I picked communications because I’m articulate. Had I actually seen the word “journalism” when I was registering, I probably would’ve run the other way.
So God is reshaping my desires. Who knows? I just might take that Nashville dream off the shelf soon and dust it off, now that I know I don’t have to go there and be some starving wanna-be photographer. But I will only go with God’s leading–when He gives me a good reason. Maybe my husband is there; I don’t know. What I do know is that I’m done trying to orchestrate things myself. I know that God will put me where I need to be.
Just a few more things...I’m half Italian, so I can make homemade spaghetti from scratch! I can also make lasagna and wedding soup. I enjoy simple pleasures like taking walks, sleeping during thunderstorms, and getting into bed with freshly laundered sheets that smell of bleach. If you want to get to know me more, read my blogs! I will try to post more.
