Danny is 4th? That's insane, Jim! This season has been like last year - two guys who are head and shoulders above the rest fighting it out from the very first show, neither ever being in the bottom three. Danny is David Archuleta - much loved as a person, fantastic voice, ballad singer but capable of a pretty wide range of styles, too. Adam is David Cook - great rocker voice, terrific stand-them-on-their-head arrangements of familiar classics.
The difference this year is Kris Allen. He has also never been in the bottom three. For all we know he may have been the leading vote-getter a lot of these weeks. I still see him as a bit of an underdog. Just look at how many people in our contest did not pick him for the final 5. I always liked him and picked him to upset Adam and get into the finale.
I won't change my original final 5, except to substitute Allison for Lil. Early on I thought Lil would be more popular, but she just didn't have any "it" factor. Nothing interesting about any of her performances.
Matt
Adam
Allison
Kris
Danny
It will be a shocker if Adam is voted off before the finale, for sure.
So Jim, expand on why you think Danny will be number 4!
Did any of us have Kris as the winner?
I would say Adam will probably win, with Kris second and Danny third. I know a lot of people love Allison, but she obviously doesn't have the fan base Danny does...witnessed by the fact that she's been in the bottom 3 at least a couple of times. The judges are doing their best to steer people toward Allison, but it might not work. I'd love to see Kris win it all instead of Adam, so I hope you're right about that.
However, I want Danny to go farther than fourth place, and I really, really hope he does! Clearly, I'm a huge Danny fan, but I'm also extremely annoyed by the Danny haters on the Internet, of which there are many. I'd love to see him go farther just to foil them. They're hoping for a shock elimination in which Danny will go home.
Following is something I posted on Facebook before last week's Disco Night:
"It's completely puzzling. Why would anyone despise an American Idol contestant to the point where they constantly write things about them that range from sneering and snarky to downright cruel and hateful?
Yet, that's what several writers who cover American Idol online have been doing for weeks now to Danny Gokey, and their commenters are even more vicious.
What has Danny Gokey done to inspire such hatred? Well, they claim that he has tried to use the death of his wife shortly before he became a contestant to garner "sympathy" votes. However, Danny's wife hasn't even been mentioned since very early in the show.
My theory is that many of these people are fans of front-runner Adam Lambert. They see Danny as the only credible threat to Lambert, so they're doing everything they can to perpetuate anti-Danny sentiment. This is really a shame, as Adam seems to be a nice guy who probably wouldn't endorse such tactics.
Although there are two other Christians in the top 7--Matt Giraud and Kris Allan--Danny is the only one who has made it clear that he is a Christian by identifying himself as a church worship leader/music director.
These anti-Danny bloggers have called him everything from "Danny the Douche" to "Danny the Ghoulish Widower"--and despite the testimony of many people who know him personally, they try to paint him as everything from arrogant and holier-than-thou to a clueless doofus.
Now, Entertainment Weekly has posted a video virtually hoping that there will be a "shock elimination" and that Danny Gokey will go home.
If you don't want the haters to have their way, vote for Danny Gokey. He is a tremendously talented singer who has done nothing to inspire this sort of viciousness."
