"Bassist . My way to Praise the Lord"

I'm 57 years old . I have a wife and 4 kids and 6 grand children . I found the lord about one year ago . Back in the 70s I played in a rock band . I had not played in 30 years when the praise team leader ask me to play bass . The lord took a hand full of dirt and made a bass player . As long as it is Christian music I'll play . I prefer CCM . I spend most of my time in the word or playing bass . Anyone close to me that looking to play come on . I'm retired so time is something I have a lot of . Thanks for reading Doug .

Testimony
My first memory is seeing my father in a casket . I was four at the time . Over the years my mother married three more times . Each stepfather was just a little worse than the last . The last one liked to beat on me just because he thought that my mom saw my dad in me . He had a very bad jealously problem . As I got older the beatings got worse . Between the ages of 14 and 17 I was a run away or in jail . The week before my 17th birthday a judge gave me the choice between the army or the Columbus institution for boys .

I went in to the army on my seventeenth birthday . First I went to Germany then to Viet Nam . It is said that there are no atheist on the battle field that’s probably true . I didn’t find God on the battle field I just learned to hate him .It was then that I started doing drugs .

When I got out of the army I became a homeless vet . Doing drugs was a part of my every day routine . Some of the churches in the major cities would rent space for a meal for the homeless , The only catch was you had to listen to them talk about God and being saved . Then they would let you eat . One night I felt the presents Of the Lord . I talked to the people their and they invited me to their church . They gave me a little money to get cleaned up and gave me a new testament called Good News for Modern Man . When I got to the church they ask me to speak so I did . I told them that I was a recovering drug addict . I was ask how long I had been clean I said one day and they ask me to leave at once . Back to the drugs .

I went to work at what ever until I had enough money to buy a large quantity of drugs to start dealing . I had only one rule I did not sell to kids . All of a sudden I had money lots of money . No longer did I live on the street I had a nice apartment and things I wanted . It was then I bought my first electric bass . All I did for the next two years was play the bass four or five hours a day . I made a deal with Satan to play his music and follow his ways . This means that I broke all 10 commandments , was a racist , Womanizer , and all ways looking to hurt some one . Found my first band and went on the road . I was still doing drugs but not dealing any more . Music was my life for the next seven years .

Marriage was some thing I wanted , It pretty well stopped my music . I led a bikers life style for a few years . In that time my first son died . He was three days old . I didn’t go to church at the time and the funeral home contacted two pastors to speak . The last pastor said that if I had lead a Christian life my son would not have died . My friends caught me just before I would have killed him .

After a divorce I fell into a deep depression . The people I was around were all Viet Nam vets . One night they got me drunk and stoned . When I woke up I was in a Veterans hospital . The doctors said I had post traumatic stress disorder . The next two years I was in different mental wards as the doc’s feed me more pills . When I told them I was hearing a voice in my head they found a drug to stop it .When they let me out I was so drugged that I had no feelings . Numb body mind and soul .

The V.A. rated me 100% disabled . Still on drugs this time legal . I married Sherry my wife today . I was her body guard and she was my nurse .After a few years our son started going to church with his wife . When He started to preach we went to listen to him . I was still too out of it for anything to happen .

For some unknown reason I started to stop taking the drugs from the V.A. . Slowly my mind and body started to come back . I started to read the Bible . God gave me so much . First I realized the many times that I had tried to kill myself He had stopped it from happing . You could not call these attempts a cry for help no details but I tried . The doctors told me I had hepaticas C ,three months later they could not understand why they could not find it . Next they told me I was going blind , four months later it was gone . Some how I lost 50 lb. quit smoking and drinking . Then I had a tumor on my brain . The doc’s ran four test and told me maybe they could operate . The fifth scan it was no longer their . Then the voice that the doctors made go away with drugs came back . He gave me back His music . The best gift that God gave me was my family . Isn’t God Great . On Aug 3 , 06 I went to the alter to ask for help with my finances . The words that came out of my mouth were of excepting Jesus Christ as my Savor being reborn not of money . Theirs been so many little things that it would be hard to list them all . I’m just a humble sinner . I don’t know why God loves me , just that he does .
Your Brother in Christ . Doug
