The first song I ever wrote on a piano, was called 'everything'. It was a simple song the main phrase, the hook as it's called was 'you are my everything'...like I said simple. I think that everything that I've written since has pretty much been to the same theme. Maybe said in a different way but the same idea...'whether we are at home or away we make it our aim to please Him' 1 Corinthians 5:12. We glorify God by giving Him our hearts...and we know that we've either grown up hearing it or from the beginning of our new lives in Him we hear it but do we understand what that means.
For me it's still a struggle because I'm so naturally inclined to giving into my desires and my needs making me everything and not God. My music over the years have changed a lot but I've always written music out of brokenness, out of helplessness. It's in these moments of life that I have found God all the more comforting and powerful and awesome. It's saying my strength is not enough...how many times have I relied on my own strength to change my messed up life when it could not be done and instead of changing it for the better I make things worse.
This is the beginning of a project that I started last year. I wanted to minister to believers through music...I wanted to write music that resembled the old church hymns that I grew up on and have always loved.
