"Salted With Fire"
"My passion is to play what I feel, and portray the state of mind that I was in when I wrote that particular song. I put every emotion and all that I have into every song I play. My life is an open story when it comes to my music. My songs are the story of my life, and the experiences I have had in it. I hope that my music can speak to others who have felt the same way." - Spencer Christian
Spencer Christian writes music and lyrics that present the real human condition. Many people who hear his music find a mirror reflecting personal experiences they can identify with. This young man who comes from a small town nestled in the foothills of the Catskill Mountains in New York, creates beautiful melodies that come straight from his heart.
Growing up in a Christian family, Spencer's house was filled with all kinds of Christian music and he started performing with his sisters at a very young age. He first picked up the guitar at age 12, spending 6 hours a day learning everything he could about the instrument. He then taught himself bass, violin, banjo, drums, harmonica and piano and has a gift of being able to play most any instrument he tries. Being home schooled allowed Spencer the freedom to go "street preaching" with his dad and as he got older, to follow his heart to reach others for Christ with his music.
Spencer honed his musical gifts over the next few years in a local Christian band called "Salted With Fire", the name taken from Mark 9:49. He wrote the music for the band, sang lead and played guitar. The band played all kinds of music from punk, to emo, to worship. They played at youth rallies, for youth in correctional facilities, Youth For Christ conventions, camps and were the house band for the Big G Cafe, a YFC cafe outside Albany, NY. When the older band members went off to college, Spencer decided to go solo and started writing some new music in more of an alternative style which reflected his heart's cries, struggles and desires. He recorded and engineered his music in a home studio.
While in high school and college, Spencer led worship in 2 churches and performed at community events. After 2 years of college, believing he was called to protect his country, Spencer joined the US Army infantry and served his time overseas at in South Korea.
